It could be defined as that physical activity, parallel to our sport modality, which we can take advantage of to obtain improvements in both physical and mental preparation.

They are different and complementary exercises to those we usually do. For example, a runner uses cycling to obtain cardiovascular improvements and reduce the risk of stress injury, largely avoiding the number of impacts against the ground. In this way, the level of physical condition will be maintained, avoiding the risk of injury, and with an “extra” of motivation, the one that takes us out of the monotony and presents us with new challenges.

One of the greatest benefits of cross training is the wide variety of motor patterns that we can obtain, since we will not always focus on the same movements. If we swim, we will make specific movements by exercising specific muscles of our body. If we also include cross training with paddle tennis, football or trekking, our body will also benefit from the patterns that we include through these practices. Thus, we will obtain a greater number of motor experiences, getting a more functional and adaptable body to all everyday situations.

In addition, cross training will allow us to work all angles and muscle fibers, since we will present to our body a wide range of exercises, avoiding limiting ourselves to a small number of activities characteristic of our sports specialty.
