Supply-chain objectives should be based on the firm's marketing objectives. The chapter focuses on three types of strategies: push, pull, and hybrid (push-pull). A push supply-chain strategy is one in which a company builds product based on a sales forecast, puts that product into storage, and waits for a customer to order the product. In a pull supply-chain strategy, manufacturing and distribution operations are driven by customer orders. The third strategy is a hybrid of the other strategies and is referred to as a push-pull strategy. In this strategy, the initial stages of the supply chain operate on a push system, but the completion of the product is based on a pull system. Place each advantage or characteristic with the appropriate supply-chain strategy. 1. Takes advantage of the fact that forecasts are more accurate at an aggregate level
2. Is also known as a speculation strategy
3. The ability to customize products specifically to customer requirements
4. The ability to forecast customer sales is most important for companies utilizing this strategy
5. The inability to take advantage of economies of scale and transportation
