They imitate their parents.

Birds that sing the same song have the same type of vocal chords in their bodies, as they are from the same species, and they happen to have the combination of alleles that result in such vocal chords being formed in their bodies. since they all have the same singing potentials (not necessarily singing abilities), and if they are nursed by their parent/parents from young, they should hear their parents or that of other birds in the same colony singing, and be able to imitate the sounds. however, if they are not able to imitate the same song, the number of potential "partners" they may find may be decreased by a great deal, which in turn decreases their chances of getting a mate. they will eventually have to force themselves the sing the song well to attract their mates or risk not having their genes passed down to the next generation.hope this ! : )
