For a patient that is taking digitalis medication, the nurse will need to closely monitor WATER LOSS AND ELECTROLYTES when taking care of the patient. Digitalis medication is usually used to treat heart failure. The drugs makes the heart to beat stronger and with a more regular rhythm. The drug has its side effects and it include causing imbalance in the electrolyte and water balance in the body.

     Potassium   level
This  is   because  medicine   may  cause  the   body  to  send   too  much   potassium  out   in  the  body  fluid which  may  cause  a  serious  drop   in   potassium   levels. The   normal  potassium  level  in  the  blood  is  3.5-5.0 mEg/l  and  potassium  level   between   5.1  to  6.0  m Eg/l   is  considered  to  be   mild   hyperkalemia.
