Parole refers to the process by which a prisoner is released before the expiration of his jail term on the condition that he maintains good behavior. Parole is sometimes used as an approach to reduce the overcrowding population of jails. Post release supervision involves releasing a prisoner nine months before the end of his jail term in order to give him the opportunity to be integrated back into the community and to test if he has been truly reformed. If such fails to maintain good behavior during the period he will be returned back to the prison to spend his remaining nine months.
