A group of bacteria(not all bacteria) is able to carry out photosysthesis like plants and algae to make their own food. These group of bacteria contain light absorbing pigment that makes them able to photosynthesize. Some common bacteria that  photosynthesize are cynobacteria, purple bacteria, green sulphur bacteria and green gliding bacteria. These all bacteria contain pigment to absorb light and perform photosynthesis to make their own food.

Photosynthesis starts with the absorption of light or solar energy by the plant pigments called chlorophyll. The activated chlorophyll molecule helps in the electron transfer from one acceptor to another forming a chain.
