How might an environment be affected if humans introduce a new type of plant to the environment?

A new type of plant, when introduced in an environment, can have an adverse effect on the other native plants present in the environment. These new plants can have a high reproduction rate and grow aggressively reducing the space and nutrients for the native plants.

Reduction in space and nutrient for native plants reduce the population of native plants and reduction in native plants can dis balance the ecosystem of that region because most of the wildlife is dependable on native plants.

For example water hyacinth an invasive species when introduced in water bodies grows very fast and covers the entire surface of the water body which results in oxygen depletion in the water.

This oxygen depletion kills native species of plants and fishes and disturbs the balance of the environment.
