The blue whale has the deepest voice of all animals, and the sound can carry for thousands of miles. The female whales are usually larger than the male whales. The lifespan of a blue whale is usually up to 80 or 90 years. The oldest blue whale recorded lived to 110 years old.

People started hunting blue whales for their blubber, baleen, and meat after the invention of harpoon guns. People hunting them lead to their population dropping from an estimated 350,000 to 1,000 in the mid-1920’s. Blue whales became so scarce in 1966, the International Whaling Commision declared them a protected species worldwide.
