The cell cycle is a series of events that take place in a cell, leading to its growth, division and duplication. Cell division requires cell cycle checkpoints hat are used to both monitor and regulate the progress of the cell cycle. Tumor-suppressor genes (TSG's) or antioncogenes are genes that protect the cell from a single event or multiple events leading to cancer. TSG's encode proteins that normally serve as a brake on cell growth. When such genes are mutated, the brake may be lifted, resulting in runaway cell growth known as cancer. In contrast, oncogenes are genes that encode proteins involved in normal cell growth. When these genes are mutated, they may also cause cancer but they do so by activating the growth-promoting signals. 12) Imagine that the regulatory tumor-suppressor genes have mutated. Which of these would NOT be a possible outcome in this situation?

A) a tumor

B) leukemia

C) AIDS/HIV

D) skin cancer

C) AIDS/HIV
