Cortisol is a steroid hormone that regulates a vertebrate animal's response to stress and inhibits inflammation. Agonists similar to cortisol are used medically to reduce symptoms of certain inflammatory disorders. Physical stress stimulates the sympathetic nervous system to initiate the secretion of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH). CRH is a signal peptide synthesized and released from CRH neurons in the hypothalamus. CRH stimulates adrenocorticotropic (ACTH) hormone release from the anterior pituitary gland, which activates cortisol release from the adrenal glands. Neurons that release CRH contain cortisol receptors that are under negative feedback control. 1. A mutation that causes the cortisol receptor to be active all of the time would decrease CRH synthesis.
a. True
b. False

2. A fluorescent marker can be used to selectively label CRH receptors.
