Three cores were recovered from an Oligo-Miocene sequence of rocks at offshore scientific drilling sites 1, 2, and 3. Figure 7 shows the logs of the recovered cores; each log displays several different lithologic units (rock units indicated by different drawing patterns). You can consider these units as "Formations", which are the basic units of geologic mapping (Maurrasse & Collins, 2015).Your task is to correlate the three core sites in figure 7. You must use the superposition and lateral continuity principles and focus on the core's lithology. For example, we identified a unit of sandstones at the bottom of site 1 and called it Unit A. We correlated the base and the top of unit A between sites 1 and 2; now, you can identify Unit A at Site 3 and extend the correlation. Identify, name, and correlate all the lithological units present at the core sites below.
