The purpose of this study was to determine the negative effects of triclosan - an antibacterial chemical commonly found in soap - on marine crustaceans. To do this, lobsters were exposed to one of four treatments: 1) 5 ml triclosan mixed into seawater, 2) 15 ml triclosan mixed into seawater, 3) 25 ml triclosan mixed into seawater, and 4) seawater only (no chemicals added). Lobster swimming speed was measured 24 hours following treatment exposure. Use the above information to match the components of the experiment to the correct vocabulary below.
Each vocab word will be used once or not at all.
Triclosan will alter lobster swimming speed
Lobster swimming speed
Water in the 5 ml triclosan tanks was 2 degrees Celsius cooler than water in the other tanks
Type of scientific study conducted
Triclosan will negatively impact lobster fitness
0 ml triclosan treatment
Triclosan concentration

The dna in a cell’s nucleus encodes proteins that are eventually targeted to every membrane and compartment in the cell, as well as proteins that are targeted for secretion from the cell. for example, consider these two proteins: phosphofructokinase (pfk) is an enzyme that functions in the cytoplasm during glycolysis. insulin, a protein that regulates blood sugar levels, is secreted from specialized pancreatic cells. assume that you can track the cellular locations of these two proteins from the time that translation is complete until the proteins reach their final destinations. for each protein, identify its targeting pathway: the sequence of cellular locations in which the protein is found from when translation is complete until it reaches its final (functional) destination. (note that if an organelle is listed in a pathway, the location implied is inside the organelle, not in the membrane that surrounds the organelle.)

Cathy hypothesized that corn would not grow in mud. to test this hypothesis, she took corn kernels and placed 5 in mud, 3 in soil, and 2 in water. to her surprise, the kernels in the mud grew faster than the kernels in the soil. what error might have caused these unexpected results? a. wrong hypothesis b. not enough variables c. undefined control d. too many variables
