Cada linfocito B, al ser activado, produce un anticuerpo específico. El cuerpo tiene millones de linfocitos B diferentes capaces de detectar antígenos distintos.  Sin unas barreras de defensa a punto y en forma, no tendríamos manera de combatir los agentes extraños que ingresan en nuestro cuerpo desde el exterior.
