Think of an organism you've heard of or read about that has a surprisingly unusual trait or behavior. How is this trait or behavior different from similar organisms? How does it help the organism survive in its environment?

The organism with an unusual behaviour that I have read of is the CHAMELEON

Behaviour is everything an organism does in response to changes in its environment. It is basically adaptive, geared mainly to promoting the organism's survival and reproduction. Generally, we associate behavioural adaptations with animals since most behaviour patterns involve movements of various body parts and locomotion. Animals exhibit a variety of behaviour patterns with respect to

--> obtaining food,

--> escape and defence,

-->surviving unfavorable conditions,

--> communication,

--> finding mates and

--> caring for the young.

The CHAMELEON is famous for its rapid colour changes as it moves from a background of one colour to another. It is DIFFERENT from other similar organisms because it can display a variety of coloured patterns to blend with its background.

The colour change exhibited by the chameleons helps the organism to obtain food and survive in its environment. The CHAMELEON simply sits still, unnoticed and when an unsuspecting insect flies by, it flicks out its tongue to catch it.

from my research i have to the conclusion that decomposers, such as fungi, bacteria and invertebrates, play a critical role in nutrient cycling and without them the earth's ecosystem may not support life as we know it. elements such as carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus exist in limited amounts on earth, although huge amounts of carbon are being released into the atmosphere from underground sources now by humans. it is still extremely important that other nutrients be retained by the process of re-use. decomposers are organisms that are able to chemically break down dead material and make these elements available for use by other organisms. without this breakdown of dead material, dead bodies would pile up. so decomposers also play a role in clean up also. without them, life might not continue as we know it and dead material would overwhelm the earth.    

the two answers are a, the population of birds with large beaks will increase on the island, and c, the trait for large beaks will be passed on to future generations through natural selection. the reason for that is because if the birds that have beaks developed for eating small seeds lose all of their food, they will go hungry and eventually starve because they physically cannot eat the large seeds, therefore making the population of large beaked birds higher. also, if the trait of large beaks are dominant on the island over small beaks, then over time the large beaked birds will reproduce more and more, while the smaller beaked birds will reproduce less and less because they can't survive with the food provided. that leads to the trait of small beaks disappearing and the trait of large beaks taking over the island.
