Claim: Convergent movement between the Jalisco Block and the Rivera Plate best explains the pattern of volcanic activity and earthquakes on the Jalisco Block. Evidence card: Scientists found the same rock on either side of an area called the TZ Rift Zone. This rock formed at the same time and in the same place when a volcano erupted sometime between about 3 million and 5 million years ago. Today, the rock formations are about 24 km apart.
