During Hurricane Katrina, using chromosomal DNA evidence and medical/dental records to identify remains was next to impossible because locations of stored records were destroyed during the disaster. Many of the unknown human remains were identified using mitochondrial DNA analysis. A)Explain how locating just the potential mother and siblings would have allowed authorities to identify remains of a missing person using this technique.
