The type of biome that is made up of scattered  grasses  and small  tress and shrubs is called the savannah. The ecosystem consisting of small community of plants and animal on a large piece  of land is  is called a biome.

Because the tress are small and scattered this  enable the  grasses to thrive in the savannah. They are located in the hot and warm climate across the world with the annual rainfall of 50.79 to 127 cm  per year. This is estimated t be about 100 '' of rainfall per year .This is fall within certain months, and there may be  fire outbreaks  when the rain  stops or in droughts.

Therefore lack of moisture is the  features of the savannah. Plants and animals in this terrestrial biome must develop  adaptive features for water conservation to survive with little  exposure of the  to heat and sunlight to prevent excessive dehydration.

The plants have narrow leaves to reduce the  surface area to volume ratio exposed  for transpiration and evaporation of moisture

some have underground stem and root for storing starch and water.

Cactus is an example of plant with thick stem to conserve water ,and spikes to prevent been eaten by herbivores

The animals have good stamina to withstand dehydration, and are less  active duding the day to conserve body water, and do reduce exposure to the hot and arid environment.

Elephants has wrinkle skin to reduce water loss ,and large ears to dissipate heat.
