Since we inherit our genes from our parents, our own genotype predicts the genotypes of our parents. Use the following table to predict the possible genotypes of two parents based on a child’s genotype for these traits. If we also know the parents’ phenotypes, we could narrow it down even more, in some cases. All of them are autosomal traits. One example is filled in for you for a child with the DD genotype. Remember that one allele must come from each parent, which is why a child that is DD cannot have a parent that is dd.
