Distinguish between Diet and Nutrition

In nutrition, diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism. The word diet often implies the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management reasons. Although humans are omnivores, each culture and each person holds some food preferences or some food taboos.

Nutrition is the biochemical and physiological process by which an organism uses food to support its life. It includes ingestion, absorption, assimilation, biosynthesis, catabolism and excretion. The science that studies the physiological process of nutrition is called nutritional science.

The main way of getting nutrition is by having a proper diet. Diet comprises of different foods, which contain nutrients. When the foods are ingested, nutrients are absorbed by the body. Body uses them in different metabolic activities. A poor diet will result in a poor metabolic efficiency. Finally, it may lead to nutrient disorders or unbalance nutritional conditions in human body.
