We realize that it’s not possible to force every single person on the planet to stay home for 10-30 days, which is why it’s so important to stop the spread of a disease when the number of infected individuals is low: We can test them, and we can do contact-tracing, where individuals are quarantined if they interacted with a person known to be infected. Now that the number of infected individuals is high, the disease is more likely to spread. 5) Thinking about the SIR model, what must happen to the numbers of susceptible, infectious, and recovered individuals for the disease spread slow down?
6) How can we use the following types of medical technology/medicine to decrease spread, and which parameter is it affecting (S, β, or L)?
a. If we develop a vaccine?
b. If we find medication to treat the infection?
c. If we test everyone to see if they are infected and quarantine them?
