Describe how the surface area to volume ration affects a cell's ability to absorb substances into it

As the cell increases, the ratio of surface area to weight of the cell decreases. This decreases the efficiency of the rate of diffusion and metabolism of the cells.

The larger cell, the less efficient. To maintain the effectiveness of the body, a large cell will divide rather than continue to grow.
