Human activity has increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. the carbon dioxide not only remains in the air, but also enters into the oceans. explain how the increased level of carbon dioxide in the ocean water has the potential to affect biodiversity. then, predict what would happen to ocean ecosystems as a result of this loss.

The enhanced level of carbon dioxide in the ocean can turn the pH of the seawater more acidic. As the water in the ocean becomes more acidic the calcium carbonate shells, which is a component of various species starts to dissolve.  

The majority of these species are the secondary or the primary producers, thus, the base of the food web would start declining in the biodiversity. Thus, if the base of the food web began to decline, the animals found further in the food web also gets affected, thus, reducing the biodiversity of the ocean in complete.  

kelp are large brown algae that live in cool, relatively shallow waters close to the shore. they grow in dense groupings much like a forest on land. these underwater towers of kelp provide food and shelter for thousands of fish, invertebrates, and marine mammal species.
