ATP is is the energy currency of the cell. The process of cellular respiration begins in cytoplasm and completes in the mitochondria of the cell.  

The overall reaction of respiration is given below:  

         C₆H₁₂O₆+ 6O₂ → 6CO₂+ 6H₂O + Energy (ATP)
