According to the concept of “survival of the fittest," if a population of birds eats worms that they find deep under ground by using their beaks, the birds that have longer beaks would be more fit.

The phrase ''survival of the fittest" first used by Herbert Spencer, a British philosopher. This phrase to describe that in nature there is a competition to survive and reproduce. Then, Charles Darwin, a British naturalist, started use this phrase in his later version of his evolution book, "On the origin of species."  It has similar meaning to the natural selection.

The basic idea of evolution is that species of organism change over time. Evolution occurs through natural selection. Natural selection causes population or species to become adapted to their environments over time. In a simple word, natural selection depend on the environment. Species that adapted to the environment will likely to survive and reproduce.  

It was Charles Darwin who first proposed this evolution idea. This ideas were based on his direct observation from his expedition around the globe in 1831 to 1836.
