The upper layer of earth in which plant grows is called as soil. This layer is rich in nutrients and organic matter. It helps in growth and development of plants. There are many factors that affects the growth of plant like the pH of soil, the amount of organic matter and the nutrient level. The microorganisms present  in the soil utilizes the waste present in the soil and converts it into manures. The microorganism such as Actinomytes, protozoa, nematodes are present which is responsible for nutrient level.

Soil refers to the organic and inorganic material found on earth surface. Soil are usually made up of about 25% of water, 25% of air, 45% mineral and 5% organic matter such as tiny living organism, humus and at times plant residue.  

Soil provides medium for plant growth. There are different factors that affect plant growth such as the soil PH, the amount of organic matter and the level of nutrients.  

The microorganisms in the soil make use of the waste present in soil by converting it to manures. Some of the microorganisms found in the soil are solely responsible for the nutrient level. Examples are nematodes, protozoa and many more.

Soil comprises many different material and they develop slowly over a period of time. Soil is present on all the lands not covered by water. There are many types of soil and it is usually based on color, texture, profile and structure.

All the types of soil forms differently and they can be found in certain places on the earth surface, middle or under the earth surface. The soils that are present on the surface of the earth are open to direct climate. Soils are also exposed to some environmental factors such as wind, which can blow it away easily.
