No there exists a distinct physical boundary between the biomes separated by landmass and water bodies.

Which means that they are separate either by forest land or by water or by the mountainous body. Thus they form a boundary with the natural or locally occurring species of the areas and ecotones have several complex variations in the planet that compete for the survival as beyond this competitive layer the dominance of adjacent community takes over, as a result, the ecotone represents a shift in dominance. At the time it may contain several adapted species over the time but generally, have clear cut and distinct conditions for hence lower species richness.
