Please HELP ! :( 3.4.4 Why are cells so small?

4. A living cell is not a simple geometric shape, like a sphere or a cube. What sort of weird cell shape might increase the ratio of surface area to volume? Would you be able to test this more complex shape in a experiment similar to this one? (3 points)

5. What other models could you make to represent a living cell? What sort of questions about a living cell could you investigate using you model? (3 points)

I REALLY NEED THIS

1.The important point is that the surface area to the volume ratio gets smaller as the cell gets larger. Thus, if the cell grows beyond a certain limit, not enough material will be able to cross the membrane fast enough to accommodate the increased cellular volume. ... That is why cells are so small.

5. Since cells are so small and can only be viewed under a microscope, it is helpful to use a model to represent the different parts and structures as related to the cell. This can be done with modeling clay, cardboard or other three-dimensional objects. Modeling clay is a very useful tool because it can be shaped and formed to look like the various cell parts and organelles. It can also be colored or painted to differentiate between cell parts. By creating a model and having the ability to visualize the parts and cell organelles, one can better understand the functioning of the cell itself. The model can also be helpful in answering specific questions about the cell such as scale of organelles, proximity to each other and appearance of various structures.
