Although Q*e-a ideally should be zero for an entire year (energy input = energy output), net radiation for the Earth’s surface (Q*sfc) alone is generally positive (gaining energy) while the net radiation for the atmosphere (Q*atm) alone is negative (losing energy) (see Figure 3). There must be a vertical transport of energy from the surface to the atmosphere to overcome this apparent imbalance. 1)By what 2 processes is this imbalance overcome?
2)If these processes did not occur, explain what would happen to Earth’s temperature over time.
