Which statement is true?
-the earth's moon is thought to have formed when a mars sized planet collided with earth during its final stages of planetary accretion
-without the earth's moon, life on earth would not be possible
-the earth's moon is the smallest moon relative to its host planet
-the earth's moon is the same size as earth
(2) is Mars (a) Mars has ice at its North and South poles.
(3) is Neptune. (e) Technically, since Pluto is considered a dwarf planet, Neptune is always the closest planet to the Sun.
(4) could be Jupiter or Saturn, but because Saturn has the moon Titan, we will save that for later. So, (4) is Jupiter. (d)
(5) is Saturn. (c) Titan is Saturn's biggest moon.
(a) Mars; (2) is thought to have liquid water in the past.
(b) Mercury; (1) has no moons.
(c) Saturn; (5) has the moon Titan.
(d) Jupiter; (4) has over 60 moons.
(e) Neptune; (3) the farthest planet from the sun at certain times.
The planets are bodies which orbit the sun directly and are massive enough to be in hydrostatic equilibrium and to dominate its orbit. There are eight planets in the Solar System and they include Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
OK so although B. being correct is a possibility it is currently only a theory and couldn't really be proven. C. the earths moon is the smallest compared to its host planet. well this is incorrect as its one of the 5 largest. D. the earths moon is the same size of earth well that's 100 percent false keep in mind that Texas alone is larger than the moon u could put the moon into the earth a couple 1000 times. A. is the only option left and even a website that was trying to explain that B. was a possibility brought up this fact while i was researching https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/moon-life-tides/ this is its exact words ",It all started some 4.5 billion years ago when, as theory has it, our nascent Earth was blindsided by a Mars-size planetary embryo, believed to have spun Earth into its initial fast rotation of roughly 12 hours per day." even though it states its only a theory it is thought of as the case and the answer states the earths moon is THOUGHT so to put it in shorter terms
ANSWER. A. The earths moon is thought to have formed when a mars sized planet collided with Earth during its final stages of planetary accretion.
The answer should be: The earth's moon is thought to have formed when a Mars-sized planet collided with Earth during its final stages of planetary accretion.
This is TRUE
Because I'm Asian and I know everything ecks DEE poggers
Why are you asking here?
Anyways its in what you asked:
"The earth's moon is thought to have formed when a Mars-sized planet collided with Earth during its final stages of planetary accretion."
This is because, in my science class at least, our teacher taught us that a Mars sized object collided with earth, and the debris from this caused the moon to form. This is also highly likely in early solar systems, as they are very dangerous with many objects crashing and colliding with other objects.
"Without the earth's moon, life on Earth would not be possible."
Maybe? I don't know. I think False on this one because we don't yet know how life came into existence, where compounds turned into organic compounds or something like that.
"The earth's moon is the smallest moon relative to its host planet."
I think that's Mars's moons, so false(Don't know much about astronomy)
"The earth's moon is the same size as the earth."
Very, Very, VERY unlikely. This would cause both the Earth and the Moon to rip each other to shreds with their own gravity, and we would have serious planet sized-problems.
Hope this helps!
