What causes ocean water to be colder at the poles than at the equator?

Ocean water is colder at poles because there sun rays fall in slanting motion, giving less amount of heat.

But on equator and equatorial region, sun rays are Straight and fall directly over it, giving more amount of heat than that on poles.
