Early in genetic research, it was suggested that the genetic code might be made up of overlapping codons in which the last two bases of one codon make up the first two bases of the next codon. Supposing it were discovered that, in a life-form from another planet, even a single base pair substitution in the DNA caused three adjacent amino acid changes in the protein coded for. Would you conclude that the code was overlapping or nonoverlapping? Explain your logic.
