Maltase is an enzyme found in saliva that catalyzes the chemical reaction that turns maltose into two glucose molecules. A patient is found to have maltase enzymes but cannot break down maltose. Write an explanation as to why the patient cannot break down maltose using your knowledge of enzymes.
