In the cellular respiration, mitochondria serves as the power house of the cell.

Cellular respiration is a metabolic process that involves the oxidation of biological fuel ( like glucose) in presence of inorganic electron acceptor ( oxygen) in order to release large amount of energy in the form of ATP( adenosine triphosphate) that is upto 38 molecules. CO₂ and H₂O are produced as waste products. The energy from ATP is utilized for various cellular activities.

It is divided into three phase that is glycolysis ( occurs in cytoplasm), kreb cycle ( in mitochondrial matrix), and electron transport chain ( in inner mitochondrial membrane). Mitochondria serves as power house as it is used in synthesis of large ATP molecules and most of the metabolic reaction of cellular respiration occur here.
