1. What is Rachel Carson warning us about in chapter 1?
2. Why was she so concerned about DDT? What are the negative consequences of DDT usage?
3. Why do you think that the scientific community rejected her at first?
4. Carson states that “humbleness” is required when we begin to work with nature. What do you think she means? How can we have humbleness toward nature?
5. One problem with DDT is biomagnification. When an animal on the top of the food chain eats a lot of animals on the lower trophic levels, they are more greatly effected with the negative consequences because of the larger quantity of DDT in their systems. What problems did DDT cause in fish and birds due to biomagnification?
6. Do you think our current microplastics conundrum is similar to the problems that Carson stated about DDT? Why or why not?
7. The video suggests that the plastics problem is not so easy to solve. Explain why.

In a classic experiment using pea shape, mendel conducted two separate genetic crosses. in the first cross the parent plants were “true breeding” for pea shape; one had round peas ( r )and the other had wrinkled (r). the first cross produced a filial 1 generation of all round peas. in the second cross, mendel bred plants from the filial 1 generation. this cross produced different results. out of approximately 1000 plants, about 75% were round and 25% were wrinkled.
