Heredity Lab Time to grab your virtual lab coat! In this lab, you will be investigating how hamsters inherit the traits for short or long fur. Hamsters do inherit their traits for long fur or short fur through the parents. The parents are what affects the offspring's traits, these are determined by the different genes. For example, if there is a recessive gene for short fur, then there will be less of a chance for the offspring to inherit short fur and vice versa. In some instances, there is a recessive gene and a dominant gene, in that case, the dominant gene will overpower the recessive gene hence it's name. There are three types of possible gene pairs, homozygous dominant: AA, homozygous recessive aa, and heterozygous dominant, Aa.If there is two of the recessive genes, then there is a higher chance for the short fur to appear in the offspring and etc.

there are two primary categories of carbohydrates, essentially differentiated on the basis of their carbohydrate content (which is in the form of starch - a complex carbohydrate):

those vegetables which contain little amounts of starch are termed as non-starchy vegetables, and some examples include: artichokes, broccoli and bean sprouts.

vegetables high in their starch content are distinguished as starchy vegetables, and some examples include: potatoes, chickpeas and corn.

cells use diffusion to get substances in and out of themselves. that diffusion will occur across the cell membrane or the outer covering of the cell. because we are talking about the surface of the cell, surface area and volume are  important factors here. as a cell increases in size, its surface area and volume increase as well.  we call that the surface area to volume ratio (sa: vol).  but the catch is that  volume increases at a greater rate than surface  area. in other words, as a cell gets bigger, the sa: vol gets smaller. so a really small cell like bacteria is mostly cell membrane (surface) with very little contents (volume). a really big cell like an egg, is mostly insides with a super thin membrane. so what ends up happening is that the cell cannot efficiently diffuse all of the stuff it needs in/out to survive. therefore cell size is limited to about 100mm. so how do we make organisms bigger than 100mm? cells divide! by dividing and becoming multicellular, organisms are able to grow!   check out the diagrams i attached to see the effect of sa: vol. i hope this ! good luck!
