flood volcanism hypothesis. which hypothesis do you think is correct? what evidence can support your idea? is it possible that both mechanisms (and perhaps others) played a role?

The Volcanic Theory revolves around the idea that a volcanic event brought about a drastic change in the earth's atmosphere. At the end of the Cretaceous period, India had vast lava flows known as the Deccan Traps that cover the area roughly the size of France. There are other areas, such as Pacific Basin, Asia, Peru, etc that had high levels of volcanic activity. This theory explains a few things that other theories do not address, such as the number of iridium peaks with irregular distribution. Unfortunately, its very difficult to reconcile lava flows in India. It also cannot explain sharp boundaries at certain sites. The impact theory is the most popular theory because it has more evidence supporting it than most other theories.
