The Tate quadrangle occupies an area in northwestern Georgia. The principal industry of the area is the quarrying and finishing of marble. Georgia is the second-largest producer of marble in the U. S. Most of Georgia's marble comes from the small area in the neighborhood of Tate and Marble Hill. The original layers that resulted in the formation of this marble were sedimentary limestone. Marble is a metamorphic rock, not sedimentary. How was the marble eventually formed?

A) Igneous intrusion resulted in contact metamorphism and the production of marble.
B) Run-off and groundwater caused chemical changes to occur in the limestone, resulting in the formation of the metamorphic marble.
C) The limestone underwent folding and faulting during the formation of the Appalachian Mountains, converting it to metamorphic marble.
Eliminate
D) Fossil evidence indicates that layers of sedimentary rock were weighted down and the intense pressure resulted in the metaphoric marble.
