One cool autumn day, Mabel boils a large pot of water on the stove. After a while, there is not much water left in the pot. Mabel looks around the kitchen and notices that all the windows are fogged up, and drops of water are even running down the inside of the glass. Mabel decides that some of the water that vanished from the pot managed to move to the windows.

Which of the following best describes what happened to the water that left the pot?
A.
By heating water on the stove, Mabel gave the water kinetic energy. The kinetic energy propelled the water across the room. When it hit the windows, the water could not move any further, so it fell down as drops.

B.
By heating the water on the stove, Mabel evaporated some of the water. When the water vapor hit the cold windows, it condensed and started to form drops.

C.
Water in the pot boiled hard enough that some of the water splashed out. This water hit the windows, covering them with steam and running down them as droplets.

D.
Water collecting on the cold windows evaporated into the air of the kitchen. The heat of the pot on the stove attracted the water to it, and the water condensed into the pot.
