The Alvin is a research submersible (manned) that explores the deep ocean. The researchers aboard the alvin made the discovery of the hydrothermal vents which are present on the floor of the ocean. The hydrothermal vents are the result of the fissures present in the Earth surface on the ocean floor from where the water (naturally heated) erupts. The hydrothermal vents support the deep ocean ecosystems. Multiple new aquatic species are found near these vents.
