Breathing is a physical process and includes inspiration and expiration.

The taking in of oxygen rich air into the lungs is called inspiration or inhalation.

The parts of respiratory system are arranged as follows:

Nose: Nose can be divided into two parts; external nose with the Nostrils and the nasal cavity.Pharynx: Nasal cavity opens into the pharyx., the common passage for food and air.Laryx: The pharynx is connected to the wind pipe through larynx.It contains vocal cords and produce soind.Trachea: Beyond the larynx, the trachea divides into two main branches.Bronchi: The two branches of trachea are called left and right bronchi that enter the left and right lungs respectively.Bronchi further divide into secondary bronchi which again divides to form tertiary bronchi.Tertiary bronchi divide into bronchioles.Bronchioles branch into terminal bronchioles.Each terminal bronchiole gives rise to a number of Alveoli.

Thus, When air is inhaled its path is:

Nasal cavity→pharynx→larynx→Trachea→bronchus→ bronchiole →alveolus.

So when air is exhaled, it will follow the exactly opposite path i.e.

Alveolus→bronchioles→bronchus→trachea→larynx→ pharynx→nasal cavity.
