"Living" is referring to everything that is still alive, breathing, functioning. While the term "biotic" includes living things, it also includes things that were once living. Something is not considered living if it was once living, but it can be considered biotic. Living things have to have the five characteristics of life: grows and develops, reproduces, responds to the environment, uses energy, and has cells. Anything can be considered biotic if it is living or was once living.
