Phosphorus is found in small quantity in the body while in large quantity in the amino acids, fats, body fluids, and bones. It plays various roles at these places. Like it helps in the formation of bones and teeth, it actually helps to take up calcium there that makes bones and teeth strong.

Amino acids as such do not contain phosphorus but get phosphorylated by the protein kinases, phosphorylation alters structure of proteins that modifies its function and activity. Phosphorus also determines that how body is utilizing the fats and carbohydrates present. It also plays essential role in body fluids, there it combines with oxygen and forms phosphate, this phosphate then act as an electrolyte for carrying the charge in body fluids.
