The carbon cycle and the oxygen cycle, which are interrelated, are closed cycles.

Chlorophyllous plants (rich in chlorophylls), cyanobacteria and photosynthetic bacteria are the primary producers of organic matter that is used by primary (herbivore) and secondary (carnivore) consumers. Organic waste resulting from plant and animal corpses is used by organisms (fungi and bacteria). Thanks to the light (solar radiation), photosynthesis thus ensures the fixation of CO2 and water that are released by respiration (mitochondria of eukaryotic cells). The oxygen (O2) released by photosynthesis is used by respiration to allow heterotrophic organisms to recover the chemical energy (sugar) contained in their nutrients.
