Calcium homeostasis is defined as the process of regulation calcium ion concentration in blood and interstitial fluid. Hormones that regulate calcium ion level in body are calcitonin and parathyroid hormone.

The calcitonin decreases the concentration of calcium ions in blood, while parathyroid hormone increases the calcium ions in blood. The calcitonin hormone is synthesized and secreted by thyroid gland, while parathyroid gland synthesizes and secrets parathyroid hormone.
