Monoculture is the raising of crops and livestock to make an entire breed or population have individually identical genes. monoculture is very productive and efficient because it can yield a huge supply of a single crop, such as corn or soybeans. monoculture has several negatives to its use. if a disease is contracted by one individual in a population of genetically-identical plants, then the whole population could be wiped out. other negatives include all but one of the following points. that is a) increased herbicide and pesticide use. b) monoculture quickly depletes the soil of nutrients. c) a decrease the genetic variation of certain gene pools. d) a decrease in the cost to farmers who rely on monocultures.
