What is most likely to happen to the ecosystem if red tail hawks are removed

I think that if the red tailed halk were removed from the ecosystem then the organisms that it preys on would overpopulate because there would be nothing to threaten it. But because those populations are growing in size the organisms that they prey on will die off because they have too many predetors, affecting everything else that eats those organisms most likely.
