How was the distinction between "clock time" and "stop time" achieved in early opera?

The distinction between "clock time" and "stop time" achieved in early opera is the following: Stop time is when the action and time is frozen, detached from the story; Clock time is along with the drama and moves with the story.

Maybe because it was so unique, a form of art, and they could easily store things in it and no one had ever done that before. i’m not sure but that’s what i think : )
