What is art?
What are the elements and principles of art? Why is it important to know this when studying art? How does looking at the elements and principles in an artwork aid your understanding of the artwork?
Presenting:
Explain as if in a debate how prehistoric cave paintings were expressive and skillfully done, not crude unskilled sketches.
Explain the basic characteristics and functions for Greek architecture.
Responding:
Which of the three periods of Greek Sculpture do you find to be the most significant? Explain why.
Discuss the similarities and differences between Greek and Roman architecture, specifically note about temple architecture.
Connecting:
Early Christians used symbols to tell the story of Christ so as not to be persecuted. What types of symbols are used today? What do we use these symbols for? Do you believe any of these symbols will gain as much acclaim and fascination as the symbols found in the catacombs? Why or why not?
Explain the advancements in architecture during the Gothic period. What are the characteristics of a Gothic Cathedral?
