Define negative space in an artistic manners.

Unusual answer I rarely see, but I believe the negative of space in a artist manner. Is that in art space is one of the seven elements that make up the basics of artworks, and pretty much since negative means opposite that would mean there is barely to no space if you put it in an artistic manner.

I did my best explaining this I hope this is somewhat correct.
