When elements in a composition are strikingly different (art)

Elements of composition are: patterns, texture, symmetry, asymmetry, depth of field, lines, curves, frames, contrast, color, viewpoint, depth, negative space, filled space, foreground, background, visual tension, shapes. The basic design principle of emphasis is used to either make certain elements of a design stand out (such as through using contrasting colors, making an element larger, increasing the white space around it, etc.), or not stand out (like when including tiny “fine print” at the bottom of a page).
